The Games of the XI Olympiad were held in Berlin from 1 to 16 August 1936. Hans von Tschammer und Osten, as ReichssportfΓΌhrer, played a significant role in the organisation of the Olympics that year. He aimed to utilise the Games to intensify the German spirit and promote the ideals of Volksgemeinschaft.
The opening ceremony took place in the Berlin Olympic Stadium on 1 August. It commenced with the Hindenburg airship flying overhead, trailing the Olympic flag. After Hitlerβs arrival, the parade of nations proceeded. Once the president of the German Olympic Committee had concluded his speech, Hitler officially declared the games open.
A total of 129 events across 25 disciplines in 19 sports were included in the Olympic programme. Out of the 49 participating nations, the German Reich secured first place in the medal table, winning a total of 101 medals.
